The Tufts University/Tufts Medical Center Imaging Facility (TIF) provides equipment and expertise for confocal and multiphoton microscopy. The facility includes a Leica TCS SP2 AOBS confocal microscope that has been outfitted with a directly coupled Coherent Mira 900 femtosecond laser for 2-photon microscopy (see TIF Services). For researchers interested in live cell imaging and the study of dynamic processes, we now offer access to the Perkin-Elmer spinning disk confocal (Ultraview LCI) operated by the Bunnell Laboratory, in association with the SCIID Core Facility and the Department of Pathology. The TIF is maintained with support from the Tufts Center for Neuroscience Research. We provide imaging services, including FRAP, FRET and the use of photoactivatible GFP, to all scientists of Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center. We also offer equipment and expertise for laser capture microdissection, using an Arcturus PixCell IIe instrument. Please see the TIF services link for additional information about this service. A protocol for LCM use, kindly provided by Dr. Maribel Rios, is available here.
The CNR offers access to a Zeiss Axioplan microscope located in Arnold 309. This instrument is configured for fluorescence microscopy, brightfield and differential interference contrast (DIC) imaging, and has image acquisition capabilities.
The TIF is supervised by Dr. Rob Jackson, and is managed on a day-to-day basis by Dr. Alenka Lovy-Wheeler. Dr. Lovy-Wheeler provides training on confocal/multiphoton microscopy, as well as laser capture microdissection. Dr. Kathleen Yee (617-636-6913; Kathleen.Yee@tufts.edu) provides training on the Zeiss Axioplan microscope in Arnold 309. Dr. Lovy-Wheeler can be reached at Alenka.Lovy_Wheeler@tufts.edu or by phone at 617-636-3795. Our facility is located in Stearns 207, adjacent to the Stearns elevator.
Spinning disk confocal microscopy and deconvolution microscopy are available through the labs of Drs. Stephen Bunnell (Pathology) and Robbie O'Connor (Infectious Disease). Please contact Dr. Lovy-Wheeler for information about access to these microscopy services.
