Neuroscience Courses / Descriptions

Biochemistry 223: Graduate Biochemistry. A graduate-level discussion of the structure and function of biologically important molecules. Emphasis will be placed on problems of protein and nucleic acid biochemistry.

CNP 209/210: Molecular Cell Biology I and II. A two-semester course for first-year neuroscience students providing a thorough survey of major topics in cell biology, cellular and molecular neuroscience, and developmental biology.

Neuroscience 205: Developmental Neurobiology. Mechanistic analysis of neural development in model vertebrate and invertebrate nervous systems. Offered every 2 years.

Neuroscience 212: Systems Neuroscience and Disease. A neuroscience course emphasizing neuronal integrative mechanisms: CNS and PNS organization, sensory systems, pain and analgesia, learning and other behaviors.

Neuroscience 215, 216: Experimental Neuroscience/Research Techniques. Laboratory course with individual faculty members.

Neuroscience 220: Scientific Writing Principles. The principles involved in the production of succinct, informative writing will be discussed. This course will focus on the improvement of each student's existing skills through interactive writing exercises.

Neuroscience 289, 290: Student Presentations. Monthly dinner meetings focused on neuroscience student presentations of research.

Neuroscience 291, 292: Journal Club. Discussion by students and advisory faculty of selected articles from the current literature.

Neuroscience 295, 296: Seminar Series. Presentations of scientific research by investigators in the Boston community and visiting speakers. Following the seminar, students in the first through third years participate in the discussion period and write brief reports based on the seminar material.

Neuroscience 297, 298: Graduate Research. Thesis topic research with selected advisor.
